Recently we tried our favorite Antioxidant daily supplement “Organic Berry Powder Blend” by Biovea to enhance the flavor of Almond Milk, Cereal and Vanilla Ice Cream. Making these desserts a quick and healthy choice.

Ingredients

Biovea Organic Berry Powder Blend!

Instructions

Water: This is recommended on the Biovea Package! Add 1 scoop of the Berry Powder to 8 ounces of water, mix well.

Almond Milk Shake: Add 1 full scoop of Berry Powder to 1 ½ Cups of Almond Milk and mix well.

Cereal: Add 1 full scoop of Berry Powder directly over cereal and stir to blend.

Cereal with Biovea

 

Ice Cream:  Add ½ scoop of Berry Powder to 2 scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream, and mix well.

Ingredients

1 ½ Cups Gluten Free Self Raising White Flour

1 teaspoon Baking Powder

¼ teaspoon Sea Salt

1 Tablespoon + 1 teaspoon of Homemade Pumpkin Spice

1 Cup Almond Milk

2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil

1 Egg Replacer

1 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract

½ Cup Brown Muscovado Cane Sugar

For an added delicious flavor, we made Apple Pumpkin Spice Muffins & Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Spice Muffins!
For these you will need the following extras.

1 Apple

1 Tablespoon Vegan Butter

1 Dark Chocolate Bar

 

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees f. (Gas mark 5)

Line muffin baking pan with paper or foil liners. (If you are using paper liner we suggest applying a drop of olive oil to the paper liner to avoid batter sticking).

Prepare the 1 Egg Replacer in a small bowl and set aside.

Chop the Dark Chocolate Bar into bite sized pieces.

Peel, core, and chop the Apple into small pieces. Sautee apple pieces in 1 Tablespoon of Vegan Butter, add 1 teaspoon of Pumpkin Spice. Cook for 2 minutes. Set aside.

Apple

In a medium bowl add the Gluten Free Flour, Baking Powder, Sea Salt, and 1 Tablespoon of the Pumpkin Spice, mix well. Add Almond Milk, Olive Oil, Egg Replacer, Vanilla Extract, and Brown Sugar, mix well.

Spoon Pumpkin Spice batter into muffin tin liners, filling ¼ full, add a spoon full of Apple mixture and top with more Pumpkin Spice batter. Do the same with the Dark Chocolate.

Bake for 15-20 minutes, use a toothpick to check if the muffins are cooked, pierce the muffin and if it comes out clean they’re done. If not, cook for a further few minutes at a time until they are cooked.

Cool and store in refrigerator.

Antioxidants are phytochemicals. These are natural chemicals that are great for promoting health and well being in your body. They offer unique properties that help to maintain healthy cells.

Phytochemicals are non-nutritional chemicals found in plants. They have protective and disease preventing (not curing) properties.  Plants produce these chemicals to protect themselves, however these chemicals can also reduce the risk of diseases in humans. There are over a thousand known phytochemicals, the most common ones are found in Tomatoes (Lycopene), in fruits and berries (Flavanoids) and in soy (Isoflavinoids). These are all antioxidants. But before we get into antioxidants we need to understand what a “free Radical” is.

Free Radicals.

Simply free radicals are chemicals that are formed naturally in our body that have the potential to harm or damage our cells. In normal cellular functions they play an important role. However in large concentrations they can become hazardous to our bodies and cause damage to DNA, Cells, Proteins and Cell membranes. This can be caused by environmental toxins including and not limited too cigarette’s, metals, high oxygen atmospheres, and ionizing radiation (x-rays entering the atmosphere from space and exposure to radiation). These can increase the risk of cancer, heart disease and other diseases.

Antioxidants.

Antioxidants neutralize free radicals. The Antioxidants interact with the free radicals and prevent them causing any harm. The body does make its own antioxidants in small doses, these are called “endogenous”. Which simply means they are produced inside the cell or organism. However, the body really relies on the “exogenous” (externally produced), antioxidants to obtain what it needs. These are called dietary antioxidants and are found in higher concentrations in dietary supplements.

Summary:

Free Radicals in large concentrations can cause damage to cells, cell membranes and proteins within our body. Antioxidants interact with the free radicals and neutralize them rendering them harmless.

Serves: 3

 Ingredients

1 tin of Organic Chickpeas

1 teaspoon Turmeric

½ teaspoon Cardamom

¼ Cup Hemp Milk

Instructions

Drain and rinse the tin of Organic Chickpeas and empty into a small saucepan on low heat.

Add the Turmeric, Cardamom, and Almond Milk and mix well.

Allow all ingredients to heat for 3 minutes; this will get the Chickpeas to soften. Get a masher and mash all ingredients well.

Cook for another 2 minutes.

NOTE: this refrigerates well and is best served the day after made. Warm it up for a minute and Voila ready to eat!

We got a new sheriff in town… The Perfect Vegan Gluten Free Pancakes!

Ingredients:

1 Cup Gluten Free Flour

2 Tablespoons Raw Sugar

1 Tablespoon Baking Powder

2 Tablespoons Olive Oil

1/8 Sea Salt

1 Cup Vegan Milk (we used Hemp milk for this one)

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients together

Let sit for 5 minutes, Watch it grow!

Lightly oil cooking pan and cook away the Perfect Pancake!

This simple Olive Spread intensifies any meal with a delicious essence, and BONUS it has added health benefits, YEAH!

Ingredients:

1 Cup / 240 ml Green Olives

1 Cup / 240ml Black Olives

2/3 Cup / 180ml Vegan Mayo

2 Tablespoons Vegan Butter

4 teaspoons of Nutritional Yeast

1 teaspoon Whole Grain English Mustard

½ teaspoon Sea Salt

½ teaspoon Pepper

Instructions:

Blend all ingredients in a Food Processor or Blender

Et Voila~

We have used this delicious spread to enhance a Veggie Burger Sandwich, and Vegan Pizza!

Brain:

Some quick and easy foods that keep the brain healthy.

Celery: The sodium contained within celery neutralizes acid in the body, this is one of the highest sodium foods we have. It contains magnesium, which keeps away migraine headaches too. It is a good blood cleanser and is beneficial if you have high blood pressure. Eat this raw.

Almonds: These are full of manganese and phosphorus these are the best nuts you can use. They are beneficial for the brain, muscles and the nervous system. Almonds contain two brain nutrients, riboflavin and L-Carnitine these have been shown to increase brain activity and also show a reduced occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease.

Black Walnuts: Walnuts contain manganese, copper, iron, phosphorous, magnesium, and calcium. They are also high in Omega 3 this is essential for brain. The brain is made up of 60% structural fat, which is why omega 3’s are so important they keep the brain flexible and fluid.
