Ingredients

Instructions

Water: This is recommended on the Biovea Package! Add 1 scoop of the Berry Powder to 8 ounces of water, mix well.

Almond Milk Shake: Add 1 full scoop of Berry Powder to 1 ½ Cups of Almond Milk and mix well.

Cereal: Add 1 full scoop of Berry Powder directly over cereal and stir to blend.

Cereal with Biovea

 

Ice Cream:  Add ½ scoop of Berry Powder to 2 scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream, and mix well.

Antioxidants are phytochemicals. These are natural chemicals that are great for promoting health and well being in your body. They offer unique properties that help to maintain healthy cells.

Phytochemicals are non-nutritional chemicals found in plants. They have protective and disease preventing (not curing) properties.  Plants produce these chemicals to protect themselves, however these chemicals can also reduce the risk of diseases in humans. There are over a thousand known phytochemicals, the most common ones are found in Tomatoes (Lycopene), in fruits and berries (Flavanoids) and in soy (Isoflavinoids). These are all antioxidants. But before we get into antioxidants we need to understand what a “free Radical” is.

Free Radicals.

Simply free radicals are chemicals that are formed naturally in our body that have the potential to harm or damage our cells. In normal cellular functions they play an important role. However in large concentrations they can become hazardous to our bodies and cause damage to DNA, Cells, Proteins and Cell membranes. This can be caused by environmental toxins including and not limited too cigarette’s, metals, high oxygen atmospheres, and ionizing radiation (x-rays entering the atmosphere from space and exposure to radiation). These can increase the risk of cancer, heart disease and other diseases.

Antioxidants.

Antioxidants neutralize free radicals. The Antioxidants interact with the free radicals and prevent them causing any harm. The body does make its own antioxidants in small doses, these are called “endogenous”. Which simply means they are produced inside the cell or organism. However, the body really relies on the “exogenous” (externally produced), antioxidants to obtain what it needs. These are called dietary antioxidants and are found in higher concentrations in dietary supplements.

Summary:

Free Radicals in large concentrations can cause damage to cells, cell membranes and proteins within our body. Antioxidants interact with the free radicals and neutralize them rendering them harmless.

Monounsaturated Fats and Protein

Almonds are great for your muscles, brain, nerves and your heart.

The oil of the RAW nut contains natural Lecithin; it is high in Monounsaturated Fats (the same kind of fats found in olives). This kind of fat lowers your LDL Cholesterol, which in turn significantly reduces the risk of coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease. Almonds are as effective as 1st generation statins in lowering your LDL cholesterol.

Almonds are also beneficial in lowering the glycemic index of foods; this lessens the rise in blood sugars after eating. The more almonds you consume the lower your blood sugars will be.

NOTE: Do not try and eat handfuls of sugar filled foods, cakes, sweets, etc… and think you can just eat almonds to get reduce the blood sugars by eating bags and bags of almonds. For best results drink 1 Pint per day but break it down to coincide with meal times so drink ¼ Pint with each meal and one before bed. As these are all good for you anyway you can’t over do it although you would become bored drinking the same thing every day.

If you suffer from depression Please avoid Cranberries, Rhubarb and Green Plums. The high acidic values will not help but can contribute to depression.

Using 4 Healthy Vegan Items plus any natural flavoring of your choice!

Ingredients:   (Ingredient breakdown after recipe –to be fair!)

2 Bars of dark chocolate of your choice

½ Cup of Raw Organic Cane Sugar

½ Cup of Non Dairy Milk (we use Almond Milk)

2 Tablespoons of Dairy Free Butter.

Step 1:

Use a large pot, fill ¾ with water -bring to a boil, reduce heat.

Step 2:

Use a glass bowl and place into the pot of boiling water, make sure no water gets into the bowl.

Step 3:

Break up the chocolate bars and place into the bowl along with all other ingredients.

Slowly mix and combine all ingredients. The chocolate will start to melt.

Once all is mixed well. Turn stove off. Allow to cool for a few minutes.

At this time you can add natural flavoring…

Sea Salt

Hazelnut

Nutmeg

Cinnamon

Mint, or anything you wish.

Pour in glass jar (we recycle our old marinara sauce jars) and refrigerate. The Chocolate Spread will be liquefied that this time however, after refrigerated it will be a spreadable solid.

Raw Cane Sugar: GOOD. Quick The cane is squeezed so the juice can come out, the juice is dirty so it is mixed with slake lime (a relative to chalk) this settles out the dirt. The juice is then evaporated to thicken the mixture. The mixture is boiled in a large pan until it is the right consistency to turn into crystals. The crystals are given a drying with hot air. This is the simplified version. There are no additives or chemicals. Raw sugar is the way to go.

Lettuce Discuss… Colds, Allergies and a little holistic help, for this Fall Season!

This time of year people tend to get symptoms of allergies, colds, coughs etc…

We refuse to have them but that’s just us. However, if we do feel a little scratchy these are some of the natural remedies we use to great effect.

One of the first things we need to do at this time of year is boost the immune system, the simple way to do this is through juicing. If you don’t have a juicer you can also blend the raw ingredients in a food processor or classic blender.

Immune System Boost (Juice)

1 Apple

3 Celery stalks

4 stalks of Kale

½ Lemon

½ Ginger Root

Alternatively take 1 Clove of Garlic per day

As the saying goes… “An Apple a day keeps the Doctor away” Apples are very high in Vitamin C plus much more…

If you would like something a bit sweeter you could add a teaspoon of Manuka Honey. Or a locally produced honey. Or a teaspoon of Organic Raw un-refined sugar.

(I know Honey is a controversial topic among Vegans, please see our prior blog “Vegans and Honey?”)

You can do this 2 or 3 times a week, it will encourage and help your immune system.

The next thing to look at this time of year is a cold cure, I’m sure we have all heard of the following recipes. It wont hurt to run through them again.

Cold Cures

1 Teaspoon of honey

½ Teaspoon of cinnamon

Alternatively take 1 Clove of Garlic per day

Honey and cinnamon are both antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and will knock out a cold within a day or two. Take this twice a day for 3 days.

*As a side note this will also help with bladder and kidney infections. It will act as a painkiller for arthritis and will reduce sugar levels and blood pressure.

The next thing this time of year is blood pressure. When we are feeling a little under the weather one of the causes of the nagging throbbing headache can be elevated blood pressure.   To lower your blood pressure you can take the cold cure above or use the following juice recipe.

Reduce Blood Pressure (Juice)

½ grapefruit

2 Stalks of celery

½ Cucumber

1 Clove of garlic

¼ Fennel bulb

This juice is great for lowering your blood pressure again you can take this 1 or twice a week or everyday if you want to. As this is all natural it can only do you good.

Next we will look at a little tonic for your Thyroid, as your thyroid is like your bodies control and distribution center we need to care for it. It is very important. You should be eating kale and seaweed to help it out but the following is a good tonic.

Thyroid Tonic (Juice)

6 Carrots

1 Cucumber

½ Lemon

10 Raddishes

You can take this twice a week or more if you are feeling it. Avoid soya as this can be damaging to your thyroid. There are plenty of alternatives to soy milk out there for example, almond, hemp, rice, and oat to name a few.

There is also Hazelnut milk, this is quite a common milk or nut to be allergic to so take care when drinking it. This brings me on to our next topic of allergies. Sometimes an allergy can present itself with cold or flu like symptoms, little itches on the skin, there is help however in the form of another juice.

Allergy Reduction

1 medium carrot

2 Large Oranges

1 handful of mint leaves

½ inch of Ginger root

Juice them together and drink twice a day. The symptoms should clear quickly.

Alternatively take 1 clove of garlic per day for allergies.

Garlic and its many uses

A single clove of garlic per day is a wonderful thing it can be used to treat so many ailments that we all have occasionally here is a list of what it is good for,
